I heard once that you become like the 5 people you spend the most time with. Having worked at a Bible camp, I can testify to the contagiousness of mannerisms. Every time one of the guys I worked with posts a facebook status including the words “Hokie Dinah” I feel a little more accomplished. 🙂
But if you pick up on the characteristics of those around you, that means they also pick up on yours! Are you letting God be your main influence? Are His love and grace fueling your actions, reactions and words? It is important to engage in conversation about our faith and beliefs, but we can only break the bad stereotypes associated with Christianity if we strive to let our circles of influence flow with the unspoken gospel. Your actions will have more of an impact on those around you than anything else.
New Living Translation (NLT)
14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
